Operation
Slugger II
The Knights of Columbus and
the Chicago Fire Department
The Knights of Columbus and the Chicago Fire Department
have teamed up with USA Cares a 501c3 charity to send
our troops new and gently used athletic equipment. Their
goal is to send our troops 20 tons of sports equipment.
The drive is called “OPERATION SLUGGER II” start date
of May 21, 2007 and end in July 2007.
Some of the items the troops have requested are: softball
gloves, softballs, footballs, basketballs, soccer balls,
rugby balls, Frisbees, hackie sac/nerf items, hand air
pumps, badminton sets, volleyball sets, baseball caps
(new) and team bags.
They will also accept cash donations to buy new equipment
or to defray shipping costs. Please make checks payable
to St Florian Council 12911 (Patron Saint of Firemen
and Paramedics and indicate that donation is for “Operation
Slugger”.
As you are aware, shipping cost are high. In order
to reduce these costs, we would ask that you wait until
your Council has collected most, if not all of the sports
equipment that is to be donated before you begin shipping.
DHL has agreed to donate $ 5,000.00 of shipping costs
and will give us a reduced rate after the $ 5,000.00
is used up.
To make arrangements for shipping, please call Grand
Knight of St Florian Council 12911 at 630-553-6301 (home)
or cell phone 630-235-3652 or e-mail at mckaton@att.net;
or call Kim Moorman, USA Cares at 800-773-0387, e-mail
at kmoorman@usacares.us.
Let the Knights of Columbus show that we support our
troops who are preserving our freedom. Your generous
contribution will be greatly appreciated by our men
and women in our Armed Forces.
